House Stats
Hi, my name is Mike! I’m a graduate student and research scientist who has leased the first floor of large Victorian home in Roland Park for the past seven years. Our house currently has an unoccupied master bedroom unit which would be happy to find a new tenant. In previous years the rooms have been enjoyed by students, medical residents, nurses, teachers and other young professionals.
I’ll describe the house and neighborhood in general before jumping into specifics about the bedrooms themselves. Click the thumbnails below for pictures of the interior and exterior:
Here are some of the house features:
- Very large living room (~350+ square feet) with south-facing windows and ornamental fireplace
- 10 foot ceiling with 9 foot pocket doors separating rooms
- Den/library with built-in bookshelves, French doors, and high quality pool table
- Spacious hallway / art gallery
- Hardwood floors in all rooms except kitchen and bathroom
- Kitchen with dishwasher, gas range, microwave, juicer, food processor, toaster oven, etc.
- Large basement for storage with washer and dryer (all free)
- Bathroom with a shower that never runs out of hot water (the water heater is a beast and the landlord pays for it)
- Ample space for parking; you’ll never have to search for a spot
- Covered stone and wood front porch
- Covered side porch ideal for grilling
- 20Mbps+ dedicated wireless Internet network
- HD-cable ready with full premium and sports packages
- Dedicated landline telephone
- Central air conditioning, though the house stays naturally cool in the summer, lowering electric bills to absurd levels
- Large front and back yards with old, majestic trees
- Located in an exceptionally safe and gorgeous neighborhood (which has decreased my auto insurance premiums!)
- Plenty of nearby jogging lanes and paths
- Quick, nearby access to route 83
- ~10 minutes by bike/car to JHU, Loyola, and Towson; one of Baltimore’s top north/south bike lanes starts at the end of our driveway
- Only about a mile from the Mt. Washington Light Rail stop
- Very cat friendly – they can run around outside safely
- Stop for Route 61 bus (goes from Lake Avenue south to JHU down St. Paul to the Inner Harbor) is right across the street from our driveway and the Route 11 (north/south into and out of the city) bus is within walking distance
The Roland Park neighborhood is one of Baltimore’s best by virtue of its safe environment, ease of parking, and its close proximity to Rt. 83. Prior to moving here, my past roommates and I have collectively lived in Canton, Fed Hill, Waverly, and Mt. Vernon and frequently experienced home and car break-ins. At this house, we have never had any safety problems and there’s never been a fear of coming and going at late hours.
The space available for rent at the end of August is the master bedroom, which consists of two rooms with two closets. This goes for $695/month. The area is somewhere around 300 square feet.
Gas, sewer and hot water are paid for by the owner. Our additional expenses include cable and high speed Internet services, electricity and heating oil in the winter. These costs are shared equally among all members of the house. Over the course of last year, the utilities averaged $155/month per person.
